Trail Log: 3-29-213

Kind of a boring picture but it was a pretty day

  • Trail: Mile Post 78 - Old Corral Rd.
  • Miles: 6
  • Riders: Self - Phil
  • Horses: Drifter - Tank
  • Dogs: Hank - Groot - Pearl

Notes: We put in at State Land access just past mile post 78. We didn't have much of a plan so we ended up looping back to my place and taking my rig back to pick up Phil's truck/trailer.

Pearl the puppy did great for her longest trek yet.

Trail Log: 3-?-2023

  • Trail: Aguila - State Land
  • Miles: 4
  • Riders: Self - Cindy C.
  • Horses: Bugsy - Jimmy - Jack
  • Dogs: Hank - Groot

Notes: Not sure what day this was - Sometime between the 18th and the 23rd! Rode behind our places for a quick jaunt.

I don't even have pictures to go with it so here  is a picture of my horses getting use out of my house that is apparently never going to get move in ready. I'm about over it. It makes an excellent wind break. :(

Trail Log: 3-18-2023

  • Trail: Eagle Eye Road - Tiger Wash - South
  • Miles: 4.95
  • Riders: Self - Phil
  • Horses: Jack - Twister
  • Dogs: Hank - Groot - Pearl

Notes: Finally got a break between storms and fence building to take a ride. We hauled up Eagle Eye and turned off one of the many trails/roads that shoot off in all directions. This one was a good choice. The desert is turning all sorts of colors. From every color of flower imaginable to velvety green of the ocotillo bush. We rode by what appears to be an old mining area. Hopefully basecamp will identify what exactly the area is/was.

Finding more water than usual with all the rain

Trail Log: 3-9-2023

  • Trail: Wickenburg Massacre Site
  • Miles: 7.23
  • Riders: Self - Phil - Mark - Patti
  • Horses_Mules: Jack - Twister - Ally/Leah - Lou Ellen
  • Dogs: Hank and Groot

Notes: Mark and Patti ended up staying another week due to bad road conditions up North. I took them to the Wickenburg massacre site. We came upon an interesting hive of bees that made their home in a small cave/hole in the side of a bank. They were tiny bees and really loud buzzing. I didn't dare get close enough to see if they were honey bees for ground hornets. I tried to take a picture and zoom up but it was too fuzzy to tell. I'm leaning toward honey bees because of the size.

Trail Log: 3-7-2023

  • Trail: Aguila - State Land
  • Miles: 5
  • Riders: Self - Blair - Cheri - Phil
  • Horses: Drifter - Uptown - Watermelon - Tank
  • Dogs: Groot - Slick - (Pearl for a short time)

Notes: Had a good practice in the morning then went to Taco Tuesday for a burrito before swapping horses and rode in the desert. Phil had to turn back with Pearl. It's starting to warm up a bit (finally) and she's too young to go that far.

Drifter thinks he should be in the lead but he can't quite keep up with the faster walking horses so he likes to lope around. I'm ok with that...but it gets annoying so we spent most of the time learning that running on a head was a lot more work than plugging along behind.

Trail Log: 3-2-2023

I didn't take a picture that day - so here's a picture of snow covered mountains west of my place. Don't see that very often. The snow is there 5 days later...crazy.

  • Trail: Aguila - State Land
  • Miles: 3
  • Riders: Self - Cheri P
  • Horses: Drifter - Sprout
  • Dogs: Hank - Groot and Slick

Notes: First time back in the saddle for about 3 weeks. About the time my horses got over the creeping crud...I got the even creepier crud. It was horrible and that's all I'll say about that...

Cheri offered to ride with me so I wasn't out on Drifter alone...especially since he's been laid off so long. He didn't miss a beat. It felt SO good to be out in the sun. This winter has been unusually cold and wet for this area and sunny days have been few and far between.

Groot taking care of me after puking my guts out for 12 hours.

Trail Log: 3-4-2023

  • Trail: Harquahala Observatory TH
  • Miles: 4.5
  • Riders: Self - Phil
  • Horses: Jack - Tank
  • Dogs: Hank - Groot and Pearl (Pearls first ride)

Notes: We've all kind of had the creeping crud around the neighborhood. I haven't ridden my horses in a good 20 days. We decided to take a short ride just to get out in the sun. Phil brought Pearl, his new little Idaho Shag puppy. It was her first time out following the horses and she did very good. She's super smart and about as adorable as they come.
