Trail Log: 6-23-2026

  • Trail: The Loop - Halfway OR
  • Miles: 3.62
  • Riders: Self
  • Horses: Jack
  • Dogs: Groot - Harley

Notes: Still not a fan of road riding, but I haven't felt much like loading up and hauling somewhere lately.

I rode Drifter in the morning for a little shooting practice in my dusty, rock-infested arena. I really need to look into getting a rock bucket.

In the afternoon, I saddled Jack and headed out around the loop. Mom came along on her four-wheeler and gave the dogs a ride whenever they decided they'd had enough walking. Groot rode most of the way, while Harley made it about two-thirds of the loop before deciding she'd put in enough miles for one day.

The loop is pretty, if a bit challenging, with all the things that might spook a horse. From llamas to shaggy Himalayan bovine monsters to hippies.

Sometimes it's hard to tell the Himalayan monsters from the hippies. Unfortunately, your horse has no such difficulty. They all scare the shit out of him equally.

Truth be told, the Himalayan bovine monster doesn't really scare my horses anymore. He lives next door and they've become accustomed to his presence. We mostly pretend he's terrifying these days so he doesn't lose confidence.
