Notes: A far cry from last years New Years ride. Sunny, cloudless and in the 60's with no wind. Can't beat that. Cindy and I met Jamie and Donna at The Box Canyon trail head. The place was packed. We managed to squeeze into the parking lot and headed up the wash to the box canyon. It was grand-central station of every flavor of off road vehicle you can imagine. The worst, and most upsetting to the horses, were the smaller kid-size four wheelers. I guess it's the high pitched "Satan meets a dying lawn mower on crack" sound they make. Plus the fact that little kids never slow down. All the horses handled it fairly well. Donna's little mare hadn't been outside the arena much and got a little wound up a couple of times. Jack figured if she was freaking out about something than surely he should be excited about something, too. Donna and I exchanged looks  as we focused on staying centered and in the saddle: Donna: "This is getting a little intense." One of my New Years resolutions is to try and see the positive side of any situation: "Yes it is - but what a beautiful day to die." Donna laughed - I like a person who can appreciate my sense of humor...however warped it may be.

We turned around at the box canyon and opted to not fight the traffic and headed back. We loaded the horse and drove back in to Wickenburg and stopped at the Palomino for lunch and drinks. Belly's full and slightly buzzed, we hauled over to Rancho Rio to get a little more riding in before heading home. Cindy and I pulled in to Aguila just before dark. Dave had our pens ready and bratz on the grill.

It was a good day...and nobody died.
